Phelps Loses Suit; When Is Open Season?

The morally bankrupt Westboro Baptist Church, that incestuous little bastion of theological scum headed by lunatic Fred Phelps, has finally gotten the justice its deserves. They've essentially been bankrupted by the judgment against them in a civil suit. Here's the money statement, as it were:

Kansas church liable in Marine funeral protest

BALTIMORE (Reuters) - A jury on Wednesday ordered an anti-gay Kansas church to pay $10.9 million in damages to relatives of a U.S. Marine who died in Iraq after church members cheered his death at his funeral.

Church members said Marine Lance Cpl. Matthew Snyder's death was God's punishment of America for tolerating homosexuality, and they attended his 2006 funeral in Maryland with signs saying "You're going to hell" and "God hates you..."
Perhaps it will not escape readers' attention that at no time did lightning bolts strike the courtroom. No angels bearing flaming swords showed up to testify in Phelps' defense.

Of course, Phelps sees things differently:
"It will take the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals a few minutes to reverse this silly thing," Phelps said.

His daughter and co-defendant, Shirley Phelps-Roper, vowed to continue protesting military funerals and called the court's decision a blow against free speech.

Outside court on Wednesday, Phelps and his children waved placards with slogans such as "Pray for more dead kids" and "God hates fag enablers," while passing drivers and pedestrians shouted abuse at them.
Once an idiot, always an idiot. Still, there's a solution.

Since Phelps believes that he's got God on his side, then God should certainly be able to provide Phelps and his whelps with all the protection they need. This angry deity is supposed to be omnipotent, is he not? Then surely the inbred flock needs no protection from police paid for by the corrupt tax dollars from the very people that Phelps and his god so despise. They shouldn't have any. They should trust in DA LAWD and his divine justice.

It ought to be perfectly legal to abuse, beat and fire gunshots at members of Westboro Baptist Church. If Phelps' god can guide the bombs and bullets of the Taliban and Iraqi insurgents to the bodies of American troops, he must be equally capable of steering them away from the bodies of Phelps and his followers. It makes no sense to get the police or legal system involved.
