Mycological Humor

Mushroomexpert.com is one of my favorite mycology-related websites. The fellow who runs it, Michael Kuo, is an amateur mycologist and writes with great wit in many of his descriptions.

I was searching for some information today regarding whether anyone had ever tried using the structure of beetle galleries in polypores as a character in phylogenetic analysis and ran across the page dedicated to an unusual species, Cryptoporus volvatus. The funny part (at least to me) is the fourth paragraph:

Cryptoporus volvatus is too tough to consider for the table--unless you are a wood-boring beetle, in which case you might also want to consider the table for the table.
