Another Fact in the Woods Hole Creationist Case

The attorney representing Nathaniel Abraham in his suit against Mark Hahn and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) is probably best known for being the lead attorney for Terri Schiavo's parents during that nightmarish case. David Gibbs III also did his undergraduate degree at Liberty University and has since maintained close ties with the university's administration, which may explain how Abraham secured a position as an associate professor. Note that Abraham has never published any research whatsoever; in the rest of the academic world, he wouldn't even have been able to get in the door.

Anyone digging into this situation is going to smell a rat here. This whole thing was a set-up from the start. I'd be surprised if Abraham hadn't been talking to Gibbs and to Liberty University administrators from the moment he learned he would be interviewed for the position in the Hahn Lab if not before he'd even applied.

When and if this goes to trial, I hope the attorneys for Woods Hole will subpoena officials from Liberty University to testify under oath about possible prior relationship with Nathaniel Abraham and investigate this angle thoroughly. If they find such a prior relationship and discover that this was a calculated effort to damage a research laboratory financially, I hope they'll file a countersuit against all involved in what would amount to a conspiracy, including Gibbs and his Christian Law Association and Liberty University, not to mention Abraham.

This whole think stinks tremendously and smacks of a tactic on the part of religious fundamentalists to prevent biological research labs from functioning. I suppose that since they've given up getting their nonsense into public primary and secondary educational institutions, the only recourse they have left is to launch an attack in their twisted "culture war" against universities and research institutions.

If this Abraham nonsense isn't quashed thoroughly by the court and by Woods Hole's legal team, you can rest assured that this sort of infiltrate-disclose-sue tactic will pop up again and again all over the country.
